Life at Billy's

July 14, 2007
Age: 5 Weeks

Without a doubt, my greatest joy in life are the weekends we spend at Billy's. If ever there was a place to love, this would be it.

It's so awesome to bring the twins "home." This weekend, I was sitting on our new couch holding the babies and watching the big girls out the window. In a year from now, these tiny babies will be making their first trek through the field, up to Grandma's house. I imagined their little arms reaching out to corral Nellie. I found myself thankful the field was planted to beans this year, thinking corn stubble would be harder for them to walk through. I wondered how far they'd actually make it before I am commissioned to carry both of them up the last stretch of hill.

We got the carpet laid in Grace and Faith's room. I love how it turned out. Grace said we can no longer call it the idiot room, since it's so nice now. But it will be forever the idiot room. Mom and I sat in the doorway of that room a million times, trying to figure out how to best utilize that strange space. I still have odd dreams about the awkward doorway.

My flowers are beautiful this year - water is the key. And the garden is looking great - thanks to Mom's work on it earlier in the season when I couldn't bend over. I was digging holes for tomatoes two weeks before the babies were born, and wow . . . did I get yelled at.

The outdoor shower has proven to be my ultimate guilty pleasure. I can't even tell you the beauty of the nights when the stars are all out and the steam is rolling off the water. I'll nurse the babies, and then run outside. Sometimes, I'll allow myself a half of a glass of wine and sit it on the bench beside shower - knowing I've got a few hours before they'll need to eat again. (A sin I never would have even considered with Grace or Faith.) I'll be out there so long some nights, that Shane feels compelled to come check on me.

Another simply joy Billy's offers is the hardwood floors. I LOVE to scrub them - down on my hands and knees - thinking about all the work that went into them to make them so beautiful. Piece by piece, they were rescued and relaid. And I think about all the people who played a part in making that happen. Billy's has truly been a labor of love.

I could write forever about how much I love this place, but really, I think everyone already knows.

First 4th of July

Date: July 4, 2007
Age: 4 Weeks

First holiday, first parade. Twins were a massive hit among the locals. The babies were actually "due" the next day.
